What I Learned from Cindy Sheehan

Rare is the moment when things come
into crystal clear view. Sometimes the veils are peeled back and things
are brought forth into striking contrast. It is, at one time, both
shocking and comforting, both unbelievable and real.

The tragic
story of Cindy Sheehan is such an example. What has been, or rather had
been, a grieving mother’s simple desire to talk to our President has
instead became yet another opportunity for both sides to revel in
self-righteousness and continue destroying what little political
discourse is left in our great nation.

It’s no secret that the
Left is exploiting this woman. In their quest to score points against
the Bush administration, they’ve discarded the last shreds of decency
they had. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that when all is said and
done, they’ll forget her name and “move on” to someone else. To them,
Mrs. Sheehan is expendable in the name of cheap partisan pandering.

And
don’t even get me started on the Right. In some ways, they’re the most
despicable of all, calling her names, kindly suggesting that she go to
A Very Hot Place. These clods are unable to make the separation between
her grief and Lefty machinations. Thus, they have missed an opportunity
to be sympathetic and compassionate. In an attempt to bolster their
charge of treason from the Left, they have made Mrs. Sheehan expendable
as well.

Both of you just need to shut the fuck up. You do not
represent us. We offer our condolences and while we may not agree with
her, we certainly do admire her for doing what she feel is right.
Meanwhile, you cavort and wail in such a manner that would make Great
Bacchus blush. You are contemptuous, noisy, and horrid. You care
nothing for human decency. You only care about power.

That’s what I’ve learned. Both sides are selfish.
