Happy Blogiversary
Last week was hectic, so I didn’t get a chance to mention this, but Thursday was the one-year anniversary of Samsara Days.I
know that this hasn’t been the most updated blog on the Interweb. In
fact, I feel that I’m still in a little bit of a “getting my feet wet”
phase, though a quick perusal of posts will show that I’ve come quite
far in one year’s time. Despite this, it is time to move forward.
I’ve
enjoyed my time on Blogger, but I find that the services they provide
are ultimately too simplistic for someone as technically-oriented as
myself. I’ve always dreamed of adding a Flickr stream and a linkblog to
the normal run-of-the-mill blog. Blogger is still a great service, but
everyone has to take the training wheels off at some point.
So, this morning, I received a “Welcome Aboard” email from my new hosting provider, TextDrive.
In addition to hosting a private wiki and hopefully a calendar (hockey
season is around the corner), it will also be the new home of Samsara
Days.
Samsara Days 2.0 will be based on Textpattern.
The developers have recently released a stable version and it offers a
number of cool features, such as future posting (where you can set a
post to go live at a particular time), comment approval, and Textile, a
system for adding style to a document without any HTML markup (more for
my convenience than anything). Plus, a majority of Textpattern sites I
have seen look great. In fact, I’m hoping that the template I’ve
created for Samsara Days 2.0 continues that elegant tradition.
I
know, I know, you’re wondering, “So when do I get to see it?” Some time
this week, hopefully. This time next week, tops. All I need to do is
adjust the template then move everything from my staging copy of
Textpattern to TextDrive. Also, as soon as I hit Publish Post here, I’m
going to point my domain names at the web host to get the DNS
propagating. Then, back up my Blogger posts into Textpattern.
I’ll
let those who need to know by email once this is all taken care of. For
the rest of you, I imagine that my next post on Blogger will be my last
and it will include a link to the new blog.
