So when recording a single for charity was all the rage in the ’80s, even the luminaries of metal got in on the act. The result is the video you see above.

Wow, look at all that hair.

Anyway, the song’s release was held up for half a year by contractual issues and when it finally hit the streets on New Year’s Day 1986, the song didn’t quite make the splash many had hoped for. Nevertheless, it did raise $1 million for charity.

Took a peek in my Drafts folder and saw this sitting here. I wanted to include a link to the song at NPR back in June, but that wasn’t doable and so I decided to wait for the video, which came out a little while ago.

No, it’s not the usual fare, but it’s a catchy song with a good message. I figure this will be my favorite hip-hop song for the next 3 or 4 years.
