Preview Zoe Keating’s New Album “Into the Trees”

Most folks know that I can be found on Twitter and it’s thanks to Twitter (and Neil Gaiman) that I discovered Zoe Keating.

Zoe plays two instruments: a cello and a 8-bank foot pedal, piped into a MacBook Pro. Basically, she layers tracks recorded on the cello, creating a mechanized ensemble of cellists. And she’s not playing Bach’s Air 8 times over either; it’s very fresh, very original. Don’t believe me? Well, just tune in below (Facebook friends might have to visit the blog to see the player):

Light of Day, Day of Darkness

So if you’re following me on Facebook, you know that I’m posting several videos throughout the day (provided Tumblr is working properly) in honor of National Goth Day/Night. But I’ve saved a special surprise for the blog. Thanks to Youtube user TheFaceBlack, you can enjoy Green Carnation’s epic masterpiece Light of Day, Day of Darkness…all 60 minutes of it.

Light of Day, Day of Darkness was released on January 8, 2002 by The End Records. Composed by Terje Vik Schei (better known as Tchort) on the occasion of his son’s birth, Light sounds like a cross between Pink Floyd and My Dying Bride. Among the usual implements of the trade, you’ll hear some strings, plenty of Hammond organ, a saxophone and not one, but two choirs.

When I was growing up, video games didn’t have trailers. They didn’t have Internet sites devoted exclusively to them, they weren’t advertised on giant billboards, they only had two dimensions and they certainly weren’t for adults.
