So I went to a rockin’ show on Saturday. And as is always the case, it gets me thinking about a little theory of mine…
It goes like this: you, The Fan, have a job to do and that’s to give The Performer your all. What do I mean? Well, I’ll tell you what it doesn’t mean – it doesn’t mean stare slack-jawed at the stage, moving only to get a beer, hit the latrine or whip out your iDroidWhatever to snap a blurry photo.
What it means is to sing as loud as you can, bang your head as hard as you can and air guitar or mosh or whatever.
You see, it’s a feedback loop. The Performer needs to know that they’re connecting with the audience and the best way to show them that is to rock the fuck out. They see that, they’ll up their energy level, which will cause you to up your energy level, and so on and so forth.
So do us all a favor. If you come to a show, come ready to bang your head and thrash around. Otherwise, stay home and listen to the band on your iPod.
